Recently, Jessie returned to Brazil for her second visit, strengthening connections with colleagues, market participants and one of the most important coffee-producing regions in the world. The experience offered a unique opportunity to deepen her understanding of the market while reinforcing the connection between origin and consumption regions.

Untitled design (14)"What fascinates me most about commodity markets is that they sit at the intersection of physical trade and financial markets," she says. "To truly understand price movements and manage risk, we need to understand how commodities move through the entire supply chain, from origin to end consumer."

For Jessie, being close to origin is about much more than gathering information. It is about experiencing the realities behind production, logistics, and market dynamics firsthand.

"Brazil is one of the world's most important coffee-producing countries. Being here allows me to see the market beyond screens, charts, and reports," she explains. "The closer we are to the source of the commodity, the better we can understand the market and support our clients with meaningful insights and risk management solutions."

While market data remains essential, some lessons can only be learned by being on the ground. Visiting producers, suppliers, and other participants across the supply chain helps bring context to the numbers and offers a deeper understanding of how decisions are made throughout the market.

"Being at origin allows us to connect financial data with real-world decision-making and gain a much deeper understanding of supply dynamics," she says.

One of the most valuable insights from visiting origin was understanding how producers make selling decisions. For example, In Brazil, farmers are able to use their coffee inventories to access financing, meaning farmers are not always forced to sell immediately after harvest. These commercial realities provide important context for understanding supply dynamics and price movements.

The experience also highlights one of Hedgepoint's greatest strengths: the ability to connect expertise across regions.

"Hedgepoint was built from the ground up in Brazil," Jessie says. "Working in Singapore gives me close access to clients and consumption markets across Asia, while visiting Brazil allows me to better understand the realities of one of the world's most important producing regions.”

For her, the value of these experiences goes beyond market knowledge. They are also a reflection of Hedgepoint's collaborative culture and commitment to continuous learning.

"What makes Hedgepoint unique is that we are not only connecting markets, but also connecting people, knowledge and expertise across regions."

Her journey from Singapore to Brazil is a reflection of something that defines Hedgepoint: combining local expertise with a global perspective and creating opportunities for people to learn from one another, wherever they are.
