Hedgepoint Global Markets

Prepared by the Market Intelligence department, Market Updates are written by analysts and specialists in each sector, covering the commodities of sugar, coffee, grains and oilseeds, energy and macroeconomics.

Every day, this team of experts gathers data from various Brazilian and international sources to produce reports, known as Updates, which provide the most important figures for each sector and relevant metrics to support business decisions and strategies based on up-to-date data.

The documents use more than 30 prestigious national and international sources, such as the USDA, CONAB and the Bolsa de Cereales, to provide accurate estimates on fund positioning, stock market prices, world harvests, export pace, basis and spread monitoring, global economic performance and much more.

In this article, we’ll explain how market updates work, their different types, what data they cover and how to access them. Enjoy the read!

How do Hedgepoint Updates reports work?

The reports focus on the major commodities in the market as well as economic and currency information. Each update provides specific updates on its main product and varies in structure depending on what is most important. See which markets are monitored on a weekly basis:

  • Sugar and Ethanol;
  • Coffee
  • Energy
  • Macroeconomics;
  • Grains and Oilseeds.

Access to these reports is free of charge. They can be accessed via the Hedgepoint HUB platform. The portal also has an analysis section available for these markets in the paid version of the platform. After registering, you will have access to the general history, with an area for discussions and space for users.

What data is updated in market updates?

Each Market Update is structured differently. Understand what data you will see:

Sugar and Ethanol

The Sugar and Ethanol reports are produced on a weekly and monthly basis and evaluate the main figures published by the market institutions:

  • Among the publications, the first report brings you up-to-date data on the estimates of the Brazilian Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry Association (Unica). It includes data on the progress of the Brazilian Central-South harvest, with crushing numbers, sugar and ethanol mix and production, as well as a commentary on Hedgepoint’s expectations for the region. The report also includes information on price parity, Petrobras import arbitrage, and weather.

  • The Market Indicators provide information on market movements. Graphs show a historical comparison of the raw and white sugar futures curve, weekly spread behavior, major parities and more.

  • The Accumulated Precipitation – Brazil update provides data on the Brazilian climate that may affect national production.

Coffee Update

The Coffee Update is based on several different sources of information, including data on stocks, differentials and weather. In addition to the data covered, our updates also include the main shipments of beans to the main ports:

  • Crop Marketing – Brazil: Charts on the marketing progress of Brazilian coffee beans, both Conilon and Arabica. Here you can follow the marketing progress of the current crop by region and by month of the year.

  • Climate Forecast – Central America and Colombia: Reports that provide information on the climate situation in each producing region as well as its share of world production. Graphs of accumulated rainfall and average temperature are essential for understanding the dynamics of coffee crop development and harvest.

The other reports on coffee stocks around the world present detailed data on stock levels, broken down by country and type of bean, with daily, monthly and annual variations, according to the ICE (Intercontinental Exchange), ECF (European Coffee Federation) and JCA (Japanese Coffee Association).

In addition, the Conab (National Supply Company) survey provides a comprehensive analysis of coffee production in Brazil, including Conilon and Arabica varieties, with maps highlighting production in different regions of the country.

In the global panorama, the report consolidates data from the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and provides an up-to-date balance of coffee supply and demand, with detailed figures at the global level. Finally, the report includes complete diagrams illustrating the progress of the coffee harvest in Brazil, categorized by region and type of coffee, from planting to harvest.
